24/7 access to service records, anywhere in the world.
GE Aviation is the world’s leading producer of large and small jet engines for commercial and military aircraft. They also supply aircraft-derived engines for marine applications and provide aviation services.
GE Aviation’s technological excellence, supported by continuing substantial investments in research and development, has been the foundation of growth, and helps to ensure quality products for customers. GE began servicing jet engines more than 50 years ago. Today, GE is the world’s leading provider of aviation services, providing customers with the experience and resources they require to keep their aircraft flying.

The Challenge
GE Aviation required a solution to allow its customer’s unlimited access 24/7 to the service records for their aircraft engines anywhere in the world. But, they had not allocated capital funding for providing this type of continuous access. The challenge was to find the right solution while staying within budget.
The Solution
Imaging Office Systems (IOS) makes weekly pickups and deliveries of approximately 25 boxes of paper documents that are scanned and indexed. The weekly turns give GE Aviation quick access to new content in their records management system, without the need to invest in any capture software or hardware, or to train and manage any FTEs.
GE Aviation prints and inserts custom break sheets at the beginning of every document set. The use of this custom break sheet with a unique bar code eliminates the need to index the records before applying associated customer data required for indexing. This step, developed during IOS’s pre-production planning phase, dramatically reduces the cost of prep and indexing for the GE Aviation.
Once captured and validated, the images and data are uploaded to a hosted content management site. As an added benefit, IOS controls the storage fees associated with the site by taking advantage of a Search from Archive feature included with the software.
The Bottom Line
-
The IOS solution gives GE Aviation web-based unlimited user access to their records management system, so their service records can be viewed from anywhere, anytime.
-
The highly configurable solution can be molded to fit any area allowing expansion through the enterprise.
